Removing Fresh Gravy Stains
If you notice the gravy stain right away, it's best to try and remove it while it's still fresh. These steps will help:
- Blot stained area with a paper towel or cloth to absorb as much of the gravy as possible. Be sure to do this gently.
- Mix a solution of a few drops of mild liquid dish soap in a cup of warm water.
- Dab the stained area with the soapy mixture, working from the outside in. Don’t rub stain too hard.
- Rinse off the soapy mixture and pat the area dry.
- Repeat these steps if necessary until the stain is gone.
Cleaning Set-In Gravy Stains
If the gravy stain has already set, you may need to use a stronger solution to lift it out. Here's what to do:
- Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl.
- Dip a cloth or small brush into the mixture and apply it directly to stain.
- Gently scrub stain in circular motions.
- Rinse off the vinegar solution with warm water and pat the area dry.
- Repeat these steps if necessary until the stain is gone.
Additional Tips
- Be sure to test the vinegar mixture on an inconspicuous area of the shoe to make sure it won't damage the material before applying it directly to the stain.
- Never put your espadrilles in the washing machine or dryer, as this could damage the material.
- If the stain still remains, take your espadrilles to a professional cleaner for help.
