Gravy stains can be an unwelcome mess to tackle when you find them on your favorite pair of cotton twill trousers. But don’t despair! There are a few simple steps you can take to easily and effectively get rid of those unsightly gravy spots.

Step 1: Blot Stain
The first step is to carefully blot gravy stain with a sponge or paper towel. Blotting helps to lift the gravy from the fabric rather than rub it in. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing too vigorously to prevent further damage.
Step 2: Pre-Treat with Detergent
Once the stain has been blotted, pre-treat the area with a laundry detergent and warm water. Let the detergent sit for 10 minutes, and then rinse off with cold water.
Step 3: Wash in Hot Water
Place the item of clothing in a washing machine and set it to run with hot water, as this can help to break up gravy stain. Do not add any other clothing items to the wash.
Step 4: Check the Stain
When wash cycle is complete, check stain to see if it has been successfully removed. If some of the stain remains, repeat steps 2 and 3 until the stain is completely gone.
Step 5: Dry Clothes
Finally, place the garment in the dryer to finish dyeing process. Again, check the stain before drying in case it needs more treatment.
Tips for Removing Gravy Stains
- Soak the garment in white vinegar before washing to help loosen the stain.
- Opt for an oxygen-based bleach product if the stain persists.
- Be sure to use hot water when washing.
- Do not place the garment in the dryer until the stain is completely gone.
