Before attempting to remove the stain, it’s important to act quickly. Take the item of clothing off and rinse it with cold water as soon as possible. This will help to prevent the stain from setting further into the fabric.

Once you’ve rinsed fabric, treat stain with a stain remover specifically designed for grease and oil-based stains. Gently rub the product onto the stain with an old toothbrush, then let the product sit for five minutes. After that, rinse the area with cold water and launder as normal with a detergent of your choice.

If you don’t have a stain remover specific to oil or grease stains, you can use a mixture of baking soda and cold water to tackle the stain. Start by making a thick paste with the baking soda and water, then apply it to the stain. Let the paste sit for at least 15 minutes, then wash the item of clothing as usual with a detergent.

For particularly stubborn stains, you can try using a soak. Create a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts cold water. Soak the garment in the mixture for up to an hour before washing as normal.

No matter what method you use, always follow the instructions on the care label of your garment and test any products on an inconspicuous area first to make sure they won't damage fabric.

After following these steps, you should have successfully removed the gravy stain from your cotton poplin garment. Enjoy your next meal without worry of staining your clothing.
