Charmeuse is a lightweight fabric woven with a soft finish that gives it a silky sheen. It’s been used for centuries in garments like robes, lingerie, and evening dresses.
Check the label on your garment to see if it’s washable or dry clean only. If you have an item that says “dry clean only,” you should take it to a professional cleaner.
If your charmeuse is washable, start by wetting the area with cold water and blotting with a clean cloth. Avoid rubbing in the stain as this will damage the fabric. Then, mix some liquid detergent with cold water and gently rub it onto the stain. Allow it to sit for a few minutes before rinsing with cold water and blotting dry. Repeat this process until the stain has vanished.
If the stain persists, you can try pre-treating it with a gentle bleach solution made of one teaspoon of bleach mixed with one quart of water. Apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes before washing as normal.
Alternatively, you can use a laundry pretreatment product specifically designed to remove grease and oil stains. Follow the instructions on the packaging before washing as normal.
If the stain is still visible, or if your charmeuse is labeled “dry clean only,” it’s best to take it to a professional cleaner who can treat the stain safely and effectively without damaging fabric.
