What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Cold water
  • Paper towels
  • Mild laundry detergent (such as Woolite)
  • A clean cloth or sponge

Step 1: Blot the Stain

The most important thing you can do when dealing with a gravy stain is to act fast. Start by gently blotting the stain with a paper towel to absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Do not rub stain; you want to avoid agitating it and pushing it further into the fabric.

Step 2: Treat the Stain with Vinegar

Once you have absorbed as much of the gravy as possible, create a solution of equal parts white vinegar and cold water. Using a clean cloth or sponge, apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for several minutes. Then, rinse the fabric with cold water and follow up by blotting it again with paper towels.

Step 3: Wash the Fabric

If the stain persists, it's time to break out the mild laundry detergent. Soak lace in cold water with a few drops of detergent for about 30 minutes. Then, rinse it out with fresh cold water and repeat blotting process with paper towels once more.

Step 4: Air Dry

Once you've dealt with the gravy stain, lay the lace flat to air dry. Do not put it in the dryer; the heat could cause the stain to set permanently.
