What You'll Need

  • Laundry detergent
  • Cold water
  • Clean rag or paper towel
  • Stain remover or oxygen bleach

Step 1: Pretreat the Stain

Using a clean rag or paper towel soaked in cold water, rinse the stain to remove as much of the gravy as possible. Be sure to blot and not rub the fabric to avoid damaging the delicate fibers.

Step 2: Create a Soapy Solution

Mix a solution of laundry detergent and cold water and test it on an inconspicuous spot of the fabric to ensure that the detergent doesn't damage the color or weaken the fibers. If it is safe to use then soak the stained area in the soapy remedy.

Step 3: Rinse the Area

Rinse the stained area with cold water to remove the detergent and any remaining gravy residue.

Step 4: Treat with Stain Remover

To further help remove the stain, use a stain remover or oxygen bleach on the fabric. If the stain remover you use contains a bleaching agent, test it on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first. Allow the stain remover to soak for 10 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Step 5: Launder the Fabric

Once stain has been successfully removed, launder the garment as you normally would. Be sure to allow the fabric to air dry completely to check if there is any remaining stain before placing in the dryer.

Conclusion

Gravy stains can be difficult to remove, but with the proper technique you can effectively erase those unsightly spots from chambray fabrics. Now you can proudly don your favorite outfit without worry of embarrassing stains!
