Before cleaning the stain, try to remove as much of the excess gravy as possible. Use a spoon or dull knife to scrape away any excess that has pooled on top of the fabric.
Use a paper towel or a clean cloth to blot up as much of the remaining gravy as possible. Be sure not to rub the stain; you want to gently dab at it until as much liquid is absorbed as possible.
Once you have removed as much of the visible stain as possible, pretreat area with sponges. Use a sponge dampened with cold water and white vinegar to help loosen the stain. Apply a light rubbing motion and rinse the sponge after each pass. After sponging with the vinegar solution, use a plain sponge to rinse the area.
Once you have pre-treated the area, it’s time to wash the fabric. Start by reading care instructions on the garment label to make sure that fabric is machine washable. Place the item in the washing machine and add a tablespoon of detergent. Set the temperature to lowest setting available and wash the item on its own, avoiding other items that may bleed color onto the calico.
Once the washing cycle is complete, take the garment out of the washer and inspect it for any remaining stains. If the stains are still visible, repeat steps 3 and 4. If the stain is gone, hang up the fabric to dry or place it in the dryer on the low heat setting.
