Ideally, you'll want to treat a gravy stain as soon as possible. If it's still wet, blot the area with cold water and an absorbent cloth or paper towel. Do not scrub! This can cause the sauce to spread and make the stain even worse. Keep blotting until there is no more sauce on the blouse.
If the stain has already dried (or if it was not completely removed using the first step) pre-treat the area with liquid laundry detergent. Allow the detergent to sit for several minutes. Use a damp cloth to gently rub it into the fabric. You may have to repeat this process a few times depending on the severity of the stain.
Once the stain has been pre-treated, put the blouse in washing machine and use the hottest temperature recommended on the care label. Add a stain-removing product to the washer, such as OxiClean. Be sure to follow the package directions for best results.
After washing, put the blouse in the dryer and select the lowest heat setting. If the stain is still visible, repeat the stain-removal process before drying again. Air-drying can also be an option.
If soap and water are not enough to remove a gravy stain, try using a common household product like white vinegar or baking soda. Apply some of the product directly to the stain and let it sit for several minutes. Then, rinse the area with cold water and repeat pre-treatment steps above.
