Swim trunks are the perfect summer wardrobe essential, but they unfortunately aren't immune to the elements. Whether it's from a day at the beach or a game of catch in the yard, grass stains are an inevitable part of wearing them. To start, dampen the grass stain with cold water and gently rub the fabric together to loosen some of the staining material. Next, apply a liquid detergent directly to the stain and lather it in with a soft brush or cloth. Let the pre-treatment sit on the material for 10 to 15 minutes before washing.
Put your swim trunks in the washing machine with a mild detergent and set machine on a cold water cycle. For extra strength, add a half cup of baking soda or hydrogen peroxide to water. Allow the swim trunks to go through the full cycle and then check to see if the stain is completely gone.
If the stain hasn't completely been removed, there are a few additional steps you can take. Smear a paste of equal parts white vinegar and baking soda onto the stain. Let the paste sit for 30 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Repeat this process as needed until the stain is gone.
Once the stain has been removed, hang swim trunks to dry in the sun. This will help to lighten any remaining discoloration caused by the grass stain. For stubborn stains, try using a stain remover specifically formulated for swim trunks.
