Pre-Treating the Stain

The first step is to pre-treat the stain before washing it. Start by wetting the stained area with cold water and rubbing a small amount of liquid laundry detergent into the fabric. Then, let the detergent sit on the fabric for ten minutes before rinsing out detergent.

Scrubbing the Stain

Once the detergent has had time to work, you can begin scrubbing the stain. Using an old toothbrush or similar, gently scrub the fabric in a circular motion so that the detergent gets further into fabric and works its magic on the grass stain. Once you’ve finished scrubbing, allow fabric to sit for another ten minutes before rinsing it with cold water.

Washing Fabric

The final step is to wash the fabric. Put the garment in the washing machine with a regular load of laundry and make sure the water temperature is cold. Once cycle is finished, check to see if the stain is completely gone. If not, repeat the steps above until stain disappears.

Additional Tips

  • For more stubborn grass stains, try treating the stain with a mixture of warm water, white vinegar and a few drops of laundry detergent. Soak for 30 minutes and then go through the steps above.
  • To prevent grass stains from happening in the first place, try spraying fabric with a stain repellent such as Scotchgard.
