What You Need
- Liquid detergent or enzyme-based stain remover
- Borax (optional)
- White vinegar (optional)
- Hydrogen peroxide (optional)
- Soft bristled brush (optional)
Instructions
- Act quickly to remove the stain. The sooner you start, the better chance you have of getting stain out completely.
- Treat the stain with a liquid detergent or an enzyme-based stain remover and let it soak for several minutes.
- If you’re using an enzyme-based cleaner, make sure it's safe for fabrics. Read the label before using.
- Rinse garment from the backside of the stain with cold water. This will help force stain out of the fabric instead of forcing it further in.
- If the stain persists, mix ¼ cup of Borax with ¼ cup of warm water. Dab the solution onto the stain and work it into fabric. Then rinse with cold water.
- If stain still remains, mix ½ cup of white vinegar with 1 ½ cups of water and add a few drops of liquid detergent. Apply the mixture to stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. Use a soft bristle brush to scrub the stain. Rinse with cold water.
- If all else fails, try using a few drops of hydrogen peroxide directly on stain and let it sit for an hour. Rinse with cold water and air dry.
Cautions
- Read the care instructions on the tag to make sure that what you are using is safe for the fabric.
- Never use hot water on a grass stain. Hot water fixes the stain particles in the fabric.
- Test a small, hidden area of the fabric for colorfastness. Proceed with caution if there is any discoloration.
Conclusion
Grass stains can be pesky, but removing them doesn't have to be! With this guide, you'll be able to remove even the toughest grass stains from your favorite polo quickly and easily.
