Bring Your Outerwear Back to Life with this Easy Grass Stain Cleaning Guide

It can happen in blink of an eye – you’re playing around or enjoying a picnic and the next thing you know, you have grass stains on your outerwear. Don’t panic! With a few simple steps and common household items, you can get those outerwear pieces looking as good as new.

Step One: Gather Your Supplies

The tools you’ll need for cleaning grass stains from outerwear include laundry detergent, white vinegar, ammonia, oxygen bleach, a bowl, a brush, a clean cloth, and a vacuum cleaner.

Step Two: Pretreat the Stain

Start by mixing laundry detergent with some warm water until suds appear. Next, dip a brush or cloth into the soapy solution and work it into the stain in a circular motion. Let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with water.

Step Three: Apply Stain Remover

If the stain is still visible after step two, mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with one cup of warm water and use to pretreat the stain again. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then use a damp cloth to scrub the stain.

Step Four: Use OxiClean

If stain is still not completely removed, mix 1 teaspoon of oxygen bleach, 1 tablespoon of ammonia, and one cup of warm water. Allow mixture to sit for 10 minutes, then use a clean cloth to dab the stain. Rinse with warm water and let it air dry.

Step Five: Give It Some TLC

Once the stain has been removed, give the fabric a thorough vacuuming. This will help refresh the material and loosen any dirt or debris that may have worked its way into the fibers.

Finishing Up

Now that the grass stain is gone, be sure to inspect the garment to make sure all the soap and cleaning solutions have been rinsed out. If the fabric feels stiff, give it a gentle wash in cold water and hang to air dry.
