Pre-treat Your Jersey

The best way to tackle bike chain grease or grass stains on jerseys is to pre-treat them with a stain remover as soon as possible. First, check the care label of your jersey to ensure that using a stain remover is allowed. Then, apply the stain remover to the soiled area, scrubbing gently. Afterwards, let the jersey sit for a few minutes before laundering.

Wash Your Jersey Separately with Detergent

It’s important to launder your stained jersey separately from other clothes. To do this, turn the jersey inside out and fill your machine with cold water and a mild detergent. Select the gentle cycle, then put your jersey into the machine and press start. Let nature of the cycle do most of work to remove dirt, grime, and odors.

Use Vinegar and Baking Soda for Stubborn Stains

If the stains still don’t come out after regular laundering, it’s time to break out the big guns! Soak stained jersey in cold water and vinegar for at least an hour before putting it in the washing machine. Once it’s in the machine, add a teaspoon of baking soda for extra cleaning power. For tough stains, you may want to repeat this process several times until the stains are completely gone.

Dry Your Jersey on Low Heat

After you have pre-treated, washed and rewashed your jersey, the last step is to dry it. Make sure to use a low heat setting to avoid shrinking or damaging the fabric. Hang your jersey up on a clothesline if you can, or lay it flat on a drying rack. Make sure the jersey is fully dry before storing it away.
