Instructions

  • Start by gently scraping away any remaining grass bits or dirt with a dull knife.
  • Mix a solution of warm water and laundry detergent in a container, stirring until sudsy.
  • Using a clean rag, dip it in the solution and dab at the stain, working from outside of the stain towards the center.
  • Once you've removed as much of the stain as possible, place the purse in a sink and rinse it with cool, clear water.
  • You may need to repeat the process a few times if necessary.
  • Once stain is gone, hang your purse up to dry.

Alternative Method

  • Instead of using water and laundry detergent, you can also try using rubbing alcohol or white vinegar to remove the stain. Both of these are very effective and safe to use on most fabrics.
  • Take a clean cloth and dampen it with the rubbing alcohol or white vinegar. Gently rub the stain until it comes up.
  • Rinse the area with cool, clear water and inspect the spot to make sure the stain has been completely removed.

Preventative Care

  • Once your purse or handbag is clean, it's important to take steps to protect it from future stains. Before going outside, spray the bag with a water-repellent coating.
  • If you know you’ll be in a grassy area, take extra precautions and wear a light raincoat or plastic poncho.
  • After being outdoors, check the bag for any stains and take action immediately.
