Grass stains

Cotton piqué fabric is lightweight, breathable and extremely comfortable, but it is also especially prone to grass stains. Fortunately, there are several methods of removing the stains without damaging the material. Here is how to do it:

Removing Grass Stains with Detergent and Water

To remove grass stains from cotton piqué, mix a solution of 1 teaspoon of laundry detergent with 1 quart of warm water. Soak the stained area for about 15 minutes and then gently rub it with a soft cloth or brush. Rinse the fabric with cold water and then launder it as usual.

Using Ammonia

Mix 1 tablespoon of ammonia with 1/2 cup of warm water and apply the solution directly to the stain. Let the ammonia work on the stain for 15 minutes and then rinse the fabric with cold water. You may need to repeat the process several times if the stain is particularly stubborn.

Using Vinegar and Baking Soda

This method is best used for light-colored fabric that may be damaged by the use of ammonia. Mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and add enough water to create a paste. Apply the paste directly to the stain and let it sit for 30 minutes before rinsing the fabric.

Using Oxygen Bleach

Oxygen bleach is especially useful for grass stains on dark-colored fabrics. To use oxygen bleach, mix 1 tablespoon of powder with 1 quart of warm water. Allow fabric to soak for 30 minutes in the solution, and then rinse the fabric with cold water.

With these simple steps, you will be able to remove grass stains from cotton pique quickly and easily.
