To start, mix one teaspoon of mild detergent with two cups of warm water in a bowl. Dip a cotton cloth into the mixture and gently rub stained area until a lather forms. Leave the mixture on the stain for five to 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
Once pre-treated, wash the item in a washing machine using the hot water setting. Add a small amount of mild detergent to the load before running the wash cycle.
In a separate bowl, mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups of warm water. Submerge the garment in mixture and let it soak for at least an hour. Remove the item from the mixture and wring out any excess liquid. Rinse with warm water and let air dry.
If the stain still persists, spot clean it with a solution of one part bleach to ten parts water. Apply the solution to stain with a paper towel or cotton cloth, making sure to keep the fabric taut. Let sit for five minutes, then rinse with warm water. Avoid letting bleach directly touch skin.
After pre-treating and washing, hang the garment outside to air dry. Do not place in the dryer until the grass stain is completely gone.
