Before you start any stain removal process, ensure that all the fabric is clean and free of debris. Use a soft brush or warm water to remove any dirt that may have built up.
Begin by soaking the entire garment in warm, soapy water. To make a cleaning solution, mix one part dish soap with three parts warm water. Let the fabric sit for 15 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water.
If there’s still a stain left after the soaking, you can pre-treat the affected area with a liquid detergent. Allow the pre-treatment to sit on the stain for 30 minutes, then use a soft cloth to blot area. Then, rinse spot with cold water.
If stain is still visible, you can try a commercial stain remover. Make sure the product is designed specifically for fabrics. Follow the instructions on the package and test the product on an inconspicuous area of the fabric before using it on the stain.
Once the stain has been treated, place garment in the washing machine with a gentle cycle and warm water. Add a mild detergent, and then allow the washing cycle to finish. Once it’s done, take the garment out and inspect the stain. If it’s still present, apply some lemon juice to it and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing in cold water.
Finally, air dry the garment outside in the sun. The sun’s rays will help to fade the stain. If the stain has been completely removed, you can throw the fabric in the dryer on low heat.
By following these simple steps, you can easily remove grass stains from cotton gingham and keep your garments looking as good as new!
