The first step in getting rid of grass stains on corduroy is to blot up as much of the stain as possible with a paper towel or clean cloth. Be sure to use a light-colored piece of cloth in order to avoid any color transfer onto the fabric. Once you’ve blotted up as much of the stain as possible, you should pre-treat the stain with a laundry detergent specifically made for heavy duty stains. Gently rub the detergent into the fabric using a toothbrush or other soft-bristled brush.
After pre-treating the stain, you should soak the fabric in a bowl or sink filled with warm water and a few drops of laundry detergent for at least 30 minutes. If you have a large grass stain, you can submerge the entire garment in the water. After soaking, launder the fabric as usual in washing machine with the appropriate laundry detergent.
For tougher grass stains, you may need to take additional steps. One alternative is to mix together equal parts dishwashing liquid and white vinegar. Apply this mixture onto the stain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Blot up the mixture before laundering fabric with warm water.
If the grass stain is still present after laundering, repeat the above process or try a spot-cleaning product. Always read the product label and check for colorfastness before using a spot-cleaning product. You can also try using a mild bleach such as chlorine or oxygen bleach in order to remove tough grass stains.
With the right techniques, you should be able to get rid of those pesky grass stains on corduroy. Just remember to always read the product label and check the fabric for colorfastness before you start.
