What You Need

  • Non-chlorine bleach
  • Stain remover
  • Cotton swabs
  • Hot water
  • Towels

Step 1: Apply Stain Remover

Apply some liquid stain remover, such as enzyme-based laundry detergent, directly on grass stain. Allow it to sit for several minutes so that it can begin to break down the stain.

Step 2: Blot with Hot Water

After stain remover has had a chance to work, use a cotton swab or towel dipped in hot water to lightly blot the stained area. This should help to further break down the stain.

Step 3: Wash with Non-Chlorine Bleach

Add a capful of non-chlorine bleach to a sink or bucket filled with hot water. Place the stained fabric into the solution and allow it to soak for 30 minutes. Afterward, wash the fabric as normal, either by hand or machine.

Step 4: Soak in Vinegar Solution

If the stain remains after washing, create a mixture of one part vinegar and two parts water. Soak the fabric in this solution for an hour, then rinse it out with cold water.

Step 5: Use Sunlight to Finish

Finally, hang the fabric out to dry in direct sunlight. The sunlight will help to naturally break down any remaining stain particles.

Tips for Success

  • If the chambray is delicate, hand-wash instead of using a washing machine.
  • Test any staining solutions on a small section of fabric before applying them over the entire stain.
  • If possible, treat grass stains as soon as possible, before they have time to set.
