What You'll Need

  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • A sponge
  • Powder laundry detergent
  • Baking soda
  • A toothbrush
  • Hydrogen peroxide

Step One: Pre-treat the Stain

Start by applying some dish soap directly to the stain. Let it sit for several minutes before scrubbing it lightly with a damp sponge.

Step Two: Soak the Cardigan

Fill a basin or bucket with warm water, adding a few tablespoons of white vinegar. Soak the cardigan in this mixture for 15 minutes.

Step Three: Create a Paste

Mix equal parts powder laundry detergent and baking soda, creating a thick paste. Rub paste onto the affected area with a damp cloth.

Step Four: Scrub the Stain

Once the paste has had time to sit on the stain, use a toothbrush to gently scrubs the area. Make sure you do not scrub too hard, as this could cause damage to the fabric.

Step Five: Rinse the Cardigan

Once the stain has been scrubbed, rinse cardigan with cold water and hang it somewhere to dry.

Additional Tips for Stubborn Stains

  • If the stain persists, try soaking the cardigan in a mixture of one part hydrogen peroxide and three parts water for 20-30 minutes.
  • Once the stain has gone, rinse with cold water and hang to dry.
