Step 1: Treat the Stain Immediately

The first step to removing a grass stain is to treat it as soon as possible. The longer it sits on the fabric, more likely it is to set in. As soon as you notice stain, gently dab the fabric with a damp cloth. Do not rub the fabric, as this could spread the stain even further.

Step 2: Pretreat the Area

For a more stubborn stain, you may want to pre-treat the area with a specialized stain pre-treatment or with some liquid detergent. To begin, work up a lather with a white cloth and a little bit of water. Then, apply the lather directly to stain before blotting the area with a damp cloth.

Step 3: Rinse the Shirt

After pre-treating the stain, you'll want to rinse out the detergent (or pre-treatment). Submerge the affected area of shirt in some lukewarm water, and gently agitate the fabric. When finished, leave the shirt in the water, and let it sit for a few minutes.

Step 4: Add Detergent and Washing Machine Cleaning

The next step is to add some detergent to the water and agitate the fabric once again. Then, let the shirt soak for at least 15 minutes. Finally, add the shirt to the washing machine, and run it through a normal cycle. You may want to repeat this step if the stain is still visible or throw it in the dryer and check it afterwards, as the heat may help set the stain in further.

Step 5: Final Treatment with Vinegar

If the stain persists, you may need to give the shirt one final treatment. Fill a spray bottle with one part white vinegar and two parts cold water, and spray the solution directly onto the stain. Then, let the shirt soak in the solution for at least an hour. Afterwards, rinse the garment with cold water before putting it in the washing machine and running it through a normal cycle.

Conclusion

With these five simple steps, you can easily remove any stubborn grass stains from your kid's favorite button-down shirt! Keep in mind, however, that pre-treating stain is always best, so be sure to act quickly in the event of an unexpected spill.
