Grass stains

Getting rid of grass stains on clothing can be a challenge, especially since way you remove them depends on the type of fabric. For example, with denim or khaki fabrics, you may need to use a different approach than you would with cotton or polyester. But never fear—here are five easy steps that will help you get rid of stubborn grass stains from black denim jeans, khakis, and more.

Step 1: Pre-Treat with Soap & Laundry Detergent

The first step is to pre-treat the stain with a combination of soap and laundry detergent. Start by wetting area with cold water and then rubbing a small amount of mild laundry detergent into area. Once the detergent has been applied, use a clean cloth to gently scrub area. Be sure to work the soap into stain and let it sit for a few minutes.

Step 2: Blot the Stain with White Vinegar

After your detergent has had some time to absorb the stain, use a second clean cloth to blot it with white vinegar. Be careful not to rub too hard, as this could cause the stain to spread. Continue to blot the area until there is no visible residue on the cloth.

Step 3: Apply Baking Soda Paste

Next, mix together some baking soda and water to create a paste. Apply the paste directly to the stained area and let it sit for about 30 minutes. If the stain is particularly stubborn, you may need to apply a thicker layer of paste that covers the entire area. Again, be careful not to rub too hard as this can cause the stain to spread.

Step 4: Wash as Normal

Once baking soda paste has done its job, wash the item as normal in cold water. Make sure to add plenty of detergent to help break down the stain. After the wash cycle is complete, check the stained area to see if grass stain is still visible. If so, repeat steps 1-4 until the stain is gone.

Step 5: Air-Dry

Once the stain is fully removed, be sure to air-dry item instead of using a dryer. Too much heat can cause stain to become heat-set and permanent, making it harder to remove later.

Bonus Tip: Use a Stain Remover

For even tougher grass stains, consider investing in a store-bought stain remover. These specialty products are designed to be used on a variety of fabrics and can help get rid of stubborn grass stains.
