Grass stains

When you’ve been lounging in the summer sun and suddenly find your accessories covered in grass stains, it can be pretty discouraging. But luckily, there are several ways that you can easily clean grass stains from your garments, shoes, and other items.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is a great way to help lift the stain from your item. To start, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with two tablespoons of warm water to make a paste. Before applying the paste to your accessory, test a small area of the fabric to make sure it won't cause any discoloration or damage. If everything looks good, apply the paste to the rest of the stain and let it sit for five minutes. After that, rinse area with warm water and repeat until the grass stain is gone.

White Vinegar

If baking soda doesn't do the trick, white vinegar is another option. Start the same way you did with baking soda, by testing a small area of fabric. If it passes the test, make a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water. Soak a rag in the mixture until it's completely covered and then apply the rag directly to the grass stain. Let it sit for a few minutes, and then use the rag to scrub away the remaining stain before rinsing with warm water.

Laundry Detergent

Another method for removing grass stains is to use laundry detergent. Mix together the detergent and warm water and dampen affected area with the mixture. Scrub the area with a soft cloth until the stain begins to come out, then rinse it with warm water. After that, soak garment or item in cold water for about 15 minutes before laundering as normal.

Cleaning Solvent

If you still can't get the grass stains out, you may need to consider using a cleaning solvent. There are many different types of solvents available, but make sure you read the label carefully and select one that is appropriate for the material of your garment or accessory. After solvent has been applied, let the area dry and then wash it according to the instructions.

Preventing Grass Stains

Once you've gotten the stains out of your item, take steps to prevent them from happening again. Wear an apron while in the yard, or choose to wear darker colors so that stains will be less visible. When you're done working in the garden, take the time to check for grass stains before storing items away.
