Grass stains

When you're dealing with a grass stain on your abaya, the first step is to figure out what kind of fabric it is made out of. Different fabrics require different cleaning methods, so knowing the type you have will help ensure success. Common materials used for abayas are silk, cotton, and polyester.

Cleaning Silk Abayas

For a silk abaya, start by filling a sink or bucket with warm water and adding a few drops of liquid detergent. Make sure the detergent is specifically designed for silk fabrics. Then gently swirl the garment around in the water for a few minutes to loosen stain. Once the grass stain is loosened, rinse the abaya off with cold water and inspect for remaining stain. If the stain is still visible, spray a mild stain remover directly onto area and let it sit for 10 minutes before rinsing it out. For stubborn stains, try dabbing the area with a cloth dipped in rubbing alcohol. Once the stain is removed, hang your abaya up to dry.

Cleaning Cotton or Polyester Abayas

For cotton or polyester abayas, start by rinsing stain with cold water. Then apply a small amount of liquid laundry detergent directly onto the stain and let sit for 15 minutes. After the recommended time, rinse the detergent off with cold water and check the stain. If the stain is still present, rub a few drops of dish soap into area and let sit for another 15 minutes before rinsing with cold water. Again, inspect the abaya for any remaining stain, and if necessary, repeat the process. Once the stain is completely gone, hang abaya up to dry.
