When dealing with glue stains on ties, the first step should always be to gently scrape off any excess glue. You can use a dull knife or spatula for this job, being careful to not snag or damage the fabric. Once you’ve removed as much glue as possible, the next step is to treat the stain with a pre-treatment solution.
You’ll want to use a product specifically designed for fabrics, like a liquid laundry detergent. Dilute the detergent in warm water and then soak the area for 30 minutes. After soaking, make sure to rinse the area thoroughly before attempting to remove stain.
If the pre-treatment solution didn’t work, then you’ll need to move on to spot cleaning. To do this, you’ll need to make a paste out of water and either baking soda or cornstarch. Work the paste into the stained area, being careful to not spread the stain further. Allow the paste to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water. Then, use a clean cloth to blot the area until dry.
Finally, if the glue stain is still visible, then you’ll need to take a more aggressive approach and use a commercial stain remover. Apply the product according to its instructions, and then rinse the tie in warm water. Lastly, put tie in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild detergent.
By following these simple steps, you should be able to get rid of those pesky glue stains on your tie.
