From the inevitable wear and tear of use to accidental spills, it’s possible for your swimwear to sustain damage beyond simple fading. One of the messiest culprits is glue, which can be a challenge to get out without damaging the fabric. Luckily, with the right methods and materials, you can make quick work of a glue stain and preserve the life and quality of your swimsuit.

Materials Needed

  • White vinegar
  • Bucket or basin
  • Old toothbrush
  • Gentle laundry detergent

Before starting, check the care instructions label for your swimsuit. Many materials used to make swimwear are sensitive to heat, so if your tag warns against hot water and bleach, stick with cold water.

Instructions

  1. Fill a bucket or basin with two-parts cold water and one-part white vinegar.
  2. Soak the garment in the solution for an hour.
  3. Using an old toothbrush, gently scrub the glue stain.
  4. Remove the garment from the bath and rinse it thoroughly, making sure all vinegar is gone.
  5. In a basin of cold water, mix a bit of gentle detergent into water.
  6. Soak the garment in the new solution for about 10 minutes.
  7. Rinse the garment until all soap residue is gone.
  8. Allow the garment to dry.

If the glue stain has not come out completely, repeat steps 1 through 7 until successful. If glue remains after several tries, it's best to take your swimwear to a professional dry cleaner who specializes in delicate fabrics.
