Step 1: Blotting

The very first step to getting rid of the glue stain is to blot the affected area using a paper towel. Press down on the material gently, being careful not to rub the glue in further. If you have white vinegar, mix it with cold water (3 parts vinegar, 1 part water) and pour it onto the stained area. This will help break down the glue so that it’s easier to remove.

Step 2: Soaking

Fill a basin with cold water and add a few drops of laundry detergent. Place your stained sleep shirt into the solution and let it soak for a few hours. After a few hours, remove your shirt from solution and rinse with cold water.

Step 3: Scrubbing

Once the shirt is dry, you can begin to scrub the glue stain. Dip an old toothbrush into some baking soda and water paste, then use this to scrub glue stain gently. This should help to lift the glue away from the fabric.

Step 4: Washing

To ensure the glue stain has been completely removed, put the shirt in the washing machine and wash it on a gentle cycle. Once it’s finished, line dry it and inspect the areas where the glue was. The glue stain should be gone!

Tips for Cleaning Glue Stains

  • Act fast when glue spills on your clothing, as it can be hard to remove if it sets for too long.
  • Be sure to test any chemical cleaners or pastes on a small, hidden areas of the shirt before applying it all over the stain.
