What You Will Need

  • Cotton swabs
  • A soft toothbrush
  • A small bowl
  • Mild soap (such as baby shampoo)
  • Cotton cloths
  • Oxygen-based bleach

Steps to Clean Glue Stains on Silk Taffeta

  1. Gently scrape off as much glue as possible from the fabric using a cotton swab.
  2. Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild soap (like baby shampoo).
  3. Dampen a soft toothbrush in soapy water and gently scrub at the glue stain.
  4. Rinse the stained area with cold water. Change the water in the bowl periodically until all traces of the soap have been removed.
  5. Mix a few tablespoons of oxygen-based bleach with 1 gallon of lukewarm water.
  6. Dip a clean soft cotton cloth into solution and dab the affected area of the fabric with the cloth.
  7. Leave fabric to sit for 10 minutes, then rinse the fabric with cold water until all traces of the bleach solution has been removed.
  8. Pat fabric dry with a clean towel.
  9. Finally, lay the stained fabric flat and allow it to air dry naturally.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always apply cleaning solutions to an inconspicuous area of the fabric before attempting cleaning, to make sure the fabric does not suffer any damage.
  • If the stain persists, consult a professional cleaner.
  • Never rub or scrub the fabric aggressively, as this could cause damage to the fibers.
  • Spot test all cleaning solutions on a small area of the fabric first, to make sure they don't cause any discoloration or damage to the fabric.
  • Always use cold water to rinse the fabric, as hot or warm water may cause silk to shrink or lose its color.
