Pre-Treating the Stain

Before you start cleaning the stain itself, it’s important to pre-treat the area first. For this step, you need a clean, damp cloth or sponge and a few drops of a mild liquid detergent. Gently dab at the stain with damp cloth or sponge to rinse away as much of the excess adhesive as possible. Then, follow up with the mild liquid detergent, using the same dabbing technique. After this, rinse treated area with clean water and let dry.

Removing Stains with Mild Detergents

If the glue stain is still present after pre-treating the area, don't worry! You'll now need to use a mild liquid detergent (again) to completely remove the stain. To do this, put a small amount of the detergent onto a cloth or sponge, and gently dab it on the stained area. After that, rinse the affected spot with warm water and let it air dry.

Removing Stains with Rubbing Alcohol

If gentle detergents don’t do the trick, you may need to move onto rubbing alcohol for more stubborn glue stains. Start by wetting the stained area with a little bit of the alcohol and rub gently to loosen up glue residue. Afterwards, use a damp cloth or sponge to wipe off the alcohol and residue, followed by a thorough rinse with cold water. And finally, let the area air dry.

Soaking Fabric

Sometimes, just dabbing at the glue stain with liquids isn't enough. In these cases, it’s best to soak the fabric. For this, fill an appropriate-sized container with lukewarm water and add a few drops of a mild liquid detergent. Put the fabric into the container and let it soak for about 15 minutes. After the time is up, take out the fabric and gently rub the glue stain with a clean cloth or sponge. Finally, rinse it off with cold water and let it air dry.

Conclusion

Glue stains can be a nuisance, but taking the appropriate steps can help get rid of them. Pre-treat the stain with a damp cloth and liquid detergent, and then use either a mild detergent or rubbing alcohol to remove the rest of glue. You can also try soaking fabric if the stains don’t disappear with dabbing.
