Oxford shoes are popular for their classic, timeless look, and they can last a long time if they are well-cared for. Unfortunately, accidents happen—and like any leather shoe, Oxfords are particularly vulnerable to glue stains. Whether you’ve dropped some glue on the outside or you’ve accidentally got glue inside the shoe itself, it can be hard to know the best way to get the stains out without ruining the leather.

Removing Glue from Your Oxford Shoes

Luckily, with a few simple steps, you can get even most stubborn glue stains out of your Oxford shoes. Start by gathering these household supplies:

  • Soft cloths
  • Lukewarm water
  • Mild soap
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • White vinegar
  • Hairdryer

If glue stain has already hardened, use a soft cloth to break it up into small pieces. Place the pieces into a lidded container so you can dispose of the glue once the stain is gone. Otherwise, if the glue is still wet, immediately wipe it off with a dry cloth.

Once you have removed as much of glue as possible, combine one part mild soap with four parts lukewarm water. Gently dab the affected area with this solution and a soft cloth until the glue stain is gone. For stubborn stains, try rubbing alcohol or white vinegar applied directly to a cloth and dabbed onto the stain. If the stain is really stubborn, use a hairdryer to soften glue before attempting to remove it.

Whichever method you choose, make sure to always follow it with a damp cloth soaked in lukewarm water and mild soap to ensure the area is clean and no residue is left behind.

Caring for Your Oxford Shoes

To avoid future glue stains, apply a leather protectant to your Oxfords before wearing them. This will help seal the leather and make it more resilient against future messes. You should also rotate the shoes you wear regularly and take extra care when applying glue near them.

With these steps, you can quickly and easily remove stubborn glue stains from your Oxford shoes and keep them looking their best for years to come.
