Removing Fresh Glue Stains
If you’ve just spilt some glue on your outerwear and it’s still wet, the easiest solution is to use rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover containing acetone. Here’s what you need to do:
- Gently dab stained area with a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol or acetone.
- If it’s a fabric item, be sure to spot test to make sure the solvent won’t damage the fabric.
- Once the stain is gone, rinse the area thoroughly with cold water to remove any residue.
- Allow item to air dry completely before wearing it or storing it.
De-Gunking Dried Glue
If the glue has already dried, you’ll need to work a bit harder to remove it. Here’s what you should do:
- Begin by scraping off as much of dried glue as possible with a flat edge like a credit card or butter knife.
- Next, cover the gluey residue with a small amount of cooking oil or petroleum jelly and allow it to sit for a few minutes to soften.
- Gently rub the softened glue with a clean cloth until it is removed.
- Rinse the area with cold water to remove any remaining residue and air dry the garment before wearing or storing it.
Preventing Future Glue Stains
Try these tips to prevent glue stains:
- Always make sure your glue is tightly sealed when not in use.
- Use a protective sheet such as cardboard or plastic to keep glue from staining your work surface.
- If you accidentally drop some glue, act fast and wipe it up immediately while it’s still wet.
