Fortunately, there are several strategies that you can use to successfully remove glue from lace in order to restore it to its original beauty. Read on to learn how to clean glue stains from lace.

Removing Glue from Lace: 4 Steps

  1. Gently scrape off excess glue. Begin by gently scraping away any excess glue from fabric. Use a dull butter knife or any flat object that won’t damage the fabric. Be careful not to press down too hard while doing this, so as not to spread the glue further.
  2. Soak the stained area with vinegar. Be sure to use white vinegar for this step, as it will help to dissolve the glue. Place the stained area of the lace fabric in a bowl of white vinegar for 5-10 minutes, allowing the vinegar to penetrate glue.
  3. Rinse with cold water. After soaking the fabric in vinegar, rinse it with cold water. This will help to remove any remaining glue that may have been loosened up by the vinegar.
  4. Launder as usual. Place the lace fabric in washing machine and launder as usual. If necessary, the item should be washed on the delicate cycle or hand washed. Air dry the fabric afterward.

Additional Tips to Keep in Mind

  • Be sure to test any cleaning solution on a small area of the fabric first to make sure it won't cause any damage.
  • For tougher glue stains, it may be necessary to repeat steps 1-3 before placing the fabric in washing machine.
  • For items made of fragile lace fabric, it may be best to take them to a professional dry cleaner who is experienced in dealing with delicate fabrics.
