Removing glue stains can seem tricky, but with right technique you'll be able to keep your HM clothes looking their best. Although the type of glue is important to consider when treating the stain, below we’ll explain how to clean glue stains in general, and some tips from the experts.

General Tips for Removing Glue Stains

  • To treat the stain, start by brushing off as much of the glue residue as possible with a soft-bristled brush. Then, soak the clothes in cold water for about 30 minutes to loosen glue further.
  • Once the glue has softened, gently scrape off as much of it as you can with a knife or spoon.
  • After removing as much of glue as possible, soak the fabric again in lukewarm water and a small amount of laundry detergent, such as Tide.
  • For colored fabrics, avoid using hot water as this may spread the stain and set it permanently.
  • Once you've finished soaking clothes, lay them flat on a towel and press down gently to absorb as much of the water as possible. Do not wring out the fabric.
  • Finally, put clothes in the washing machine, set the temperature to cold (unless otherwise stated on care label) and launder as usual. Hang the clothes to air dry.

Removing Different Types of Glue Stains

Depending on the type of glue used on your clothing, you may need to adjust the treatment. For example, if the glue contains solvents, such as liquid adhesives for repairing shoes, then you should use a solvent-based cleaner instead of soap and water. On the other hand, if the glue is water-based, such as white craft glue, then follow the steps outlined above.

Glue stains can be tough to remove, but with these easy steps you'll have your HM clothes looking brand new in no time.
