Step 1: Identify the Type of Glue

The first step in safely and effectively removing glue stains from cotton twill is to identify what type of glue is present. This will determine best course of action for cleaning the fabric. Different types of glue require different techniques for removal. For instance, a PVA glue should be treated differently than a super glue.

Step 2: Apply Detergent

Once you have identified type of glue, it’s time to apply a detergent. A mild dish soap or laundry detergent should do the trick. Make sure to apply the detergent directly to the affected area and then gently rub it into fabric. Allow the detergent to sit for at least 15 minutes before proceeding to next step.

Step 3: Rinse the Fabric

Once the detergent has had a chance to sink in, it’s time to rinse the fabric. Be sure to use lukewarm water and rinse until all the detergent is gone. If possible, try to agitate the fabric while rinsing to help loosen any remaining glue particles.

Step 4: Launder the Fabric

The final step in removing glue stains from cotton twill is to launder the fabric. Follow care instructions on tag and use the warmest water that is safe for the fabric. Once cycle is complete, be sure to inspect the fabric to make sure the stain has been thoroughly removed. If not, repeat steps 1-3 until the stain is gone.
