Removing Fresh Glue Stains

The best way to get glue stains out of corduroy is to act quickly. As soon as you notice stain, use a dull knife or something similar to scrape up as much of the glue as possible. Be careful not to spread glue around or damage the fabric while you’re scraping. Once you’ve gotten the bulk of the glue off, you can move on to the next step.

Dab it Dry

Using a clean white cloth, dab away the remaining glue and excess liquid. Avoid rubbing the stain, as this could spread the glue and make it worse. Instead, press the cloth to the affected area firmly and gently blot away the residue. Keep using fresh parts of the cloth as they become soiled until all of the glue residue is removed.

Treating with Solvents

If you have stubborn glue stains that won’t budge, you may need to use a solvent to help remove the residue. There are various types of solvents available at your local hardware or home improvement store, so be sure to read the label carefully and choose one that’s appropriate for the type of fabric you’re cleaning. Apply the solvent to the stain according to the instructions, but be sure to test it in an inconspicuous spot first to make sure it won’t damage the fabric.

Cleaning with Dish Soap

Another effective method for removing glue stains from corduroy is to use dish soap. Simply mix a few drops of mild dish soap with some water to make a sudsy solution. Apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes before rubbing it in gently with a soft cloth. Rinse the area thoroughly with water and then pat dry with a clean cloth.

Washing the Stain Away

If the glue stain is still present after treating it with the methods above, you can try washing it in the washing machine. Before popping garment in, pre-treat the stained area with a heavy-duty laundry detergent. Use cold water and delicate cycle for the best results. Be sure to hang the item up to air dry afterwards instead of putting it in dryer.
