Take a look at the stain—is it still wet, or has it dried? Does the fabric feel stiff to the touch? If it's still wet, the good news is that you have a better chance of successfully removing stain. If it's dried, you'll need to soak it in warm water for a few hours first.
If the glue stain is dried, submerge the shirt (or just the stained area) in warm water and let it sit for a few hours. This will help loosen the glue particles and make them easier to remove.
Once the stain has softened, it's time to apply detergent. Gently rub laundry detergent into the stained area, using your fingers or a soft-bristled brush. Work in small circles until you've completely covered the spot. For particularly stubborn stains, you may want to increase the concentration of the detergent.
Rinse the shirt with cold water and repeat Steps 3 and 4 until the stain has disappeared. Once stain is gone, launder the shirt as usual. Your favorite button-down should be good as new!
