Use a knife or spoon to scrape off any excess adhesive residue from the lace. Once majority of glue has been removed, proceed to the next step.
Mix one gallon of cold water with one teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Do not add too much soap, as it can cause the lace to discolor.
Soak the Battenberg lace in the cleaning solution for at least 30 minutes. If glue stain is particularly stubborn, you may need to let it sit for an hour or two. Do not leave it soaking for longer than necessary.
Using a soft-bristled brush, carefully scrub away the remaining glue stain. Do not use a rough bristle brush, as this could damage the delicate fabric. After scrubbing, rinse the lace in cold water.
Lay the Battenberg lace flat on a clean towel and allow it to air dry. Do not wring or twist the lace, as this could damage delicate fabric.
