Step 1: Determine the Type of Glue

Before you start cleaning the glue stain, it’s important to figure out what type of glue you need to remove. Different types of glue require different cleaning techniques. Common types of glue used in household projects, such as white glue and wood glue, can usually be removed using a combination of water and detergent. If the glue was used to make repairs on fabric, it could be a rubber adhesive, which may require a solvent-based cleaner.

Step 2: Prepare the Cleaning Solution

Once you’ve determined the type of glue, you can begin preparing the cleaning solution. For most common glues, a combination of warm water and detergent should do trick. Start by mixing equal parts of detergent and warm water in a bowl, stirring until they are completely combined. Test a small area of the fabric first to make sure the solution does not damage the fabric.

Step 3: Apply the Cleaning Solution

Using a clean cloth, apply the cleaning solution to the glue stain. Work the cleaning solution into stain and let sit for several minutes. Once the stain has been soaked, use the cloth to gently dab at it, blotting away any excess glue. You may need to repeat this process several times to remove all of the stain.

Step 4: Rinse Away Residue

After you’ve blotted away the glue, rinse the fabric with cool water to remove any residue. Be sure to inspect the fabric to make sure all of the glue has been removed. If any residue remains, repeat the process until the fabric is stain-free.

Step 5: Dry the Fabric

Once the glue has been removed, allow the fabric to air dry. Avoid using a dryer as heat can set any remaining glue stains.
