Materials Needed for Cleaning

  • Dish soap
  • Sponge
  • Clean cloth
  • Water

Steps for Removal

  1. Mix a drop of dish soap with warm water in a small bowl.
  2. Using your sponge, dip it in mixture and then gently dab it against the foundation stain on the Venetian lace.
  3. Be careful not to scrub as this might cause further damage to the delicate material.
  4. After patting at the stained area, take your clean cloth and dab it into the mixture again before squeezing out the excess liquid and pressing it onto the stained area.
  5. Gently press against the area. Do not rub.
  6. Keep repeating steps 2-3 until stain has been removed.
  7. If the stain persists, you may need to repeat the whole process to ensure that the stain is totally eliminated.
  8. Once the stain has been removed, rinse the area off with some warm water and run cloth over it one more time to make sure that all of the soap has been washed off.
  9. Let the material air dry or pat it gently with a clean cloth.

Additional Tips

  • Be sure to test the cleaning mixture on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first to check for any potential color-loss.
  • If you don’t have access to dish soap, mild laundry detergent or a specialized spot-cleaning solution can work as well.
  • Be sure to always use a clean cloth or sponge and to keep wringing out cloth or rinsing and replacing the sponge in the cleaning mixture every so often so that you aren’t just rubbing the stain back and forth.
