Before getting started, it is important to determine the colorfastness of the fabric. To do this, you will need to take a swatch of the fabric and soak it in cold water for up to 10 minutes. If there is no color transfer onto a white paper towel, your item can be machine washed. If your swatch did transfer color, you will need to follow steps below to get rid of stubborn foundation stains on your Tencel fabric.
Start by pre-treating foundation stains. Start by applying some liquid laundry detergent directly to the stain and then rub it into fabric. You can also use a mild, all-purpose cleaner or even hand sanitizer if necessary. Allow the cleaner to sit on fabric for at least 10 minutes before proceeding.
Fill a sink or bowl with cold water and add a few tablespoons of liquid laundry detergent. Submerge the stained fabric and let it soak for at least an hour. Make sure to check on the fabric every 15-20 minutes to ensure that the stains are being loosened.
After fabric has had time to soak, put it in washing machine with some liquid laundry detergent and other items that are similar in color. Make sure to set the washer to the cold water cycle and choose the gentle setting. Once the cycle has finished, immediately remove fabric from the machine and inspect the stains.
If the stains are still visible after washing, you can try spot treating them with some liquid laundry detergent and warm water. Let the detergent sit for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it out with cold water. Then, lay the fabric flat to air dry completely.
If the foundation stain persists, you may need to repeat steps 1-4 in order to completely remove the stain. Some tough stains may require multiple treatments in order to be fully removed.
If the stain remains after several rounds of treatment, you may need to apply a specialized stain remover. First, test the product on a small, inconspicuous area of the fabric. If it does not cause damage, you can proceed with using the product on the entire stain.
