Step 1: Soak Your Suit

Start by soaking your swimsuit in cold water and a mild detergent using a sink or a bucket. Make sure the fabric is submerged for at least 30 minutes. Don't use hot water, as this could cause the stain to set.

Step 2: Scrub it Gently

Once your suit has soaked, rub the stained area gently with a soft-bristled brush. This is especially important if you’re dealing with a stubborn foundation stain that didn’t come out with the cold water soak. Just make sure not to scrub too hard, as this can cause damage to fabric.

Step 3: Rinse and Repeat

After you've brushed the stained area, rinse the swimsuit and repeat the soaking, scrubbing and rinsing processes until the stain is gone.

Step 4: Pretreat With In-Wash Stain Removers

If the previous steps didn't remove all of your foundation stains, pretreat the fabric with an in-wash stain remover such as OxiClean or Biz. Follow the instructions on the label for the best results.

Step 5: Wash and Hang to Dry

Once you've pretreated suit, wash it according to the care instructions on the label. Hang it up to dry rather than tumble drying it, as this can cause the foundation stain to set. Once it's dry, inspect the fabric to make sure the stain is completely gone.
