Nothing ruins an expensive outfit like makeup stains, especially on delicate silk taffeta fabric. But don't worry; here’s a complete guide to removing foundation makeup stains from your favorite clothing – no matter how old they are.

Take a clean, white cloth and begin to blot stain as soon as you’ve noticed it. This will help to remove any excess foundation that may be sitting on top of the fabric. The cloth will also collect and absorb the foundation that has seeped into surface of the fabric.
Mix one tablespoon of mild detergent and two cups of cold water in a bowl. Dip a toothbrush (or other brush with soft bristles) into solution and then use it to gently scrub the stained area on the taffeta. When you're done scrubbing, rinse fabric with cold water and leave it to air dry.
If the stain remains after pretreating, then you can apply a specific stain remover directly to spot. Use a product designed for removing water-based or oil-based makeup products, depending on which type of foundation you’re dealing with. Note that some stain removers contain bleach, so make sure to read the instructions and test the product on a small part of the fabric first before using it on the entire garment.
Once you have treated the stain with either the detergent solution or a specific stain remover, the next step is to launder the garment as normal. Be sure to use the gentlest cycle available and use cold water to wash garment. Additionally, hang the clothing item to air-dry in order to prevent the fabric from shrinking or becoming misshapen in the process.
