Before beginning the cleaning process, you’ll want to blot up any excess foundation with a clean, dry cloth. Don’t rub the stain, as this can push it further into the fabric. If your stain is particularly stubborn, you may want to use some dry cleaning solvent for this step as well.
Mix equal parts warm water and white vinegar in a bowl. The mixture should be about the same temperature as your silk—avoid hot or cold water so you don’t damage the fabric.
Lay your silk shantung flat on a clean surface and begin to dab the stain with cleaning solution using a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid rubbing the stain as this can cause it to spread. Continue to dab the stain until you can no longer see it.
After you’ve removed the stain, you’ll want to wash the garment as normal to make sure all the cleaning solution has been removed. Be sure to follow instructions on the care label of fabric for best results.
With these simple steps, you can get stubborn foundation stains out of your silk shantung garments and have them looking as good as new. Just remember to always test any cleaning solutions or solvents in an inconspicuous area before using them on the actual garment.
