Gently blot the stained area of the shirt with a damp cloth or paper towel. Do not rub as this may spread the stain out. Continue blotting until there is no more foundation transferring from shirt to the cloth.
Create a mix of hot water and a few drops of dish soap. Use this mix to pre-treat any remaining foundation stain on the shirt. Let the pre-treatment sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing out with cold water.
If the foundation stain remains, soak the shirt in cold water and a few drops of dish soap for at least 30 minutes. This will help loosen the stain so that it can be removed more easily.
Follow the care instructions for your shirt, but choose a detergent with enzyme action such as Persil or Tide. Enzyme detergents make it easier to break down and remove foundation stains.
Once washing cycle is complete, do not put the shirt in the dryer. Air drying ensures that the foundation stain does not set into the fabric.
