If you’ve got a foundation stain on your scarf, the good news is that there are a few relatively straightforward methods you can use to clean it up. But before you get started, you’ll want to make sure the fabric is colorfast (which means the colors will stay the same when exposed to water). You can test a small area of the fabric by wetting it with water, then blotting it dry to check if any of the dye transfers to cloth.
This method is great for removing fresh foundation stains. Dab a baby wipe onto the affected area, and gently rub it in a circular motion until the stain lifts. Then rinse the area with cool water and blot it dry with a clean cloth. Be sure to avoid scrunching the fabric together as this could set the stain.
If the stain is more stubborn, you may need to use a stronger solution. Mix a few drops of a mild liquid laundry detergent with warm water, and use a soft bristled brush to gently work the solution into the fabric. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, then rinse off the detergent with cool water. Finally, use a clean cloth to blot area dry.
Vinegar is a great natural cleaner and can help remove tough stains such as foundation. Simply mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water, and apply it to the stain with a sponge or cloth. Let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse the area with cool water and let the fabric air dry.
Note: Be sure to check the fabric label before trying any of these methods. Some fabrics may be too delicate for cleaning solutions.
