What You'll Need

  • Dish soap
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Old toothbrush

Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

Start by applying dish soap directly to the stained area. You may need to use an old toothbrush to work it into the fabric. Let the soap sit on the stain for 10-15 minutes.

Step 2: Mix a Hot Water & Vinegar Solution

Mix together ½ cup of hot water and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Dip a clean cloth in the solution and dab the stained area until it is saturated.

Step 3: Apply Baking Soda

After saturating the area with hot water and vinegar solution, sprinkle some baking soda over stain and let it sit for 15 minutes. The baking soda will help remove makeup residue from fibers of your raincoat.

Step 4: Rinse Away the Remaining Stain

Rinse the stain with cool water using your fingertips or a soft-bristled brush. This will help to lift any remaining makeup residue.

Step 5: Spot Treat with Hydrogen Peroxide

Using a cotton swab or cloth, apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to the stained area and rub gently. Let the hydrogen peroxide sit for several minutes before rinsing with cool water.

Step 6: Launder as Normal

Finally, throw your raincoat in the washing machine with your regular detergent and launder according to the care instructions. Hang your raincoat to dry and check the stain; if it’s still visible, repeat this process again until the stain is gone.
