The first step is to pre-treat the stain. This means taking a clean piece of cloth and dampening it with water. Then take some laundry detergent or a grease-fighting liquid dishwashing soap and apply it to the stain. Rub it into fabric with your fingers in a circular motion. Allow the detergent to sit on the stain for about 5 minutes before rinsing it out with cold water.

The second step is to try using a stain remover. There are several products on the market specifically made for removing tough stains from fabrics. Most of them can be sprayed directly onto the stain and rubbed in with a clean cloth. Allow the product to work into the fabric for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water.

The third step is to use a heavy-duty washing machine cycle and some extra laundry detergent. Put the poncho in washing machine on a gentle cycle with a few drops of laundry detergent. Wash the poncho until the cycle is completed and then rinse with cold water.

After these three steps, you should be able to remove most foundation stains from ponchos. If the stain is still visible, you may want to repeat steps until the stain is gone. Make sure to always follow the instructions on the care label of the poncho before treating a stain.
