Polo shirts are a popular wardrobe staple, and can be dressed up or down for any occasion. Unfortunately, accidents can happen and foundation can end up making an unwelcome appearance.

Step 1: Act Fast

Acting quickly after any makeup spill is key to getting it out without damaging your shirt. Blot up as much of the foundation as you can with paper towels before washing. Do not rub the stain, as it will spread.

Step 2: Choosing a Detergent

The type of detergent you use can make all difference. Avoid using a detergent with bleach, as this can discolour your clothes. Instead, opt for an enzyme-based detergent, which works better on protein stains such as foundation.

Step 3: Pre-Treat the Stain

Sprinkle a small amount of detergent onto the stained area and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before washing. For more stubborn stains, try soaking the fabric in a bowl of warm water and detergent overnight.

Step 4: Wash and Dry

For best results, wash your shirt on a delicate cycle with cold water. If the stain persists, try repeating pre-treatment step and then washing again. When finished, hang your shirt up to dry and avoid putting it in the dryer.
