The natural properties of some common household ingredients make them perfect for removing foundation stains from mohair. Vinegar, baking soda, and laundry detergent can all help lift the stain from the fabric without damaging it. To begin, mix 2 parts vinegar to 1 part water in a bowl and dip a soft cloth or sponge into it. Squeeze out any excess liquid before gently dabbing the stained area. Allow the vinegar solution to sit on mohair for up to 30 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water. If the stain persists, mix 1 part baking soda with 1 part water in a bowl and apply the paste to the stained area. Leave it for 15-20 minutes before washing the fabric with a suitable laundry detergent.
For stubborn foundation stains, turn to a spot cleaner to treat the affected area. This type of cleaner is specifically designed to remove tough stains from delicate fabrics like mohair. Follow the instructions on the cleaner’s packaging and apply it directly to the stained area. After letting it set for a few minutes, rinse the fabric thoroughly with cold water and then launder as usual.
When air drying your mohair after laundering, avoid direct sunlight. The bright light from the sun can cause discoloration or fading of the fabric. Instead, pick an area that gets good air circulation but is away from direct sunlight. This will help ensure that the foundation stains are fully removed, and your mohair looks good as new!
