Begin by using a mild soap or laundry detergent to saturate stained area of your midi dress. Gently rub the fabric together to help lift stain, then rinse with cool water. This method works best with fresh-set foundation stains, so do this as soon as possible after staining.
If you’ve tried the water method and had no luck, try using ammonia or rubbing alcohol to remove the foundation stains. Be sure to use pure, non-diluted ammonia, and only use this method on white fabrics to prevent discoloration. To use, simply mix 1 teaspoon of ammonia to one cup of warm water, or use rubbing alcohol directly on the fabric. Let the ammonia or rubbing alcohol soak in for up to 15 minutes, then rinse fabric thoroughly.
Micellar water is a gentle yet powerful solution that can be used to remove even stubborn foundation stains from delicate fabrics like midi dresses. To use, simply spray the micellar water directly onto stain, then gently press a clean cloth or sponge against the fabric. Rinse the fabric with cool water, and repeat if needed.
Sometimes foundation stains can be too difficult to remove or disguise. If the stain has been set in, you may want to consider covering it up with a scarf or shawl. This is a great way to extend life of your midi dress and still maintain your fashion sense!
If all else fails, your last resort should be to take your midi dress to a professional dry cleaner. They will have the necessary tools and skills to put your dress back in tip-top shape. Note that this method may cost more, but it guarantees best results.
